Magha Puja day 15th waxing moon, in the 3rd Lunar month.
 
Magha Puja day is the day for the veneration of Lord Buddha’s first teaching after 9 month of his enlightenment.
 
The day falls on the 15th Full moon in the 3rd Lunar month and when it is important as the day of 4 marvelous events occurred; b
 
1. 1,250 disciples came to see the Buddha that evening without being summoned.
 
2. All of them were “Arhantas” or enlighten ones who were ordained by Lord Buddha himself.
 
3. The Lord Buddha gave those Arhantas important Buddhism principles called "Ovādapātimokha",teaching the people "to cease from all evil and to do what is good. The principles have become the main teaching for Buddhism.
 
4. It was the full moon day.
 
On this day, Buddhist people will wake up very early in the morning and making merit by offering foods, water and desserts to the monks. During the day, they will go to the temples and listen to Dharma teachings, and practice Meditation. In the evening, the monks and people congregate for the candlelight procession or “Wian Tian” which means Circle around the candle in Thai. They will hold flowers with lighted candles and circumambulate clockwise three times around Phra Ubosod or Ordination Hall. Each round is to worship Lord Buddha, his Dharma teachings and the monks.
